Advent Calendar Day 17 – Star brownies

The love story with these brownies started last year, as they are really fluffy and are actually an all-year-round recipe. They are quite easy and fast to make – just cut them in squares outside of the Christmas season. The only thing: don’t try to bake two batches at the same time – it did not work for me …

These star brownies were even staring in my last year’s Christmas Stop Motion video. This Christmas season they did not have to work that hard to get on the table: this year they only had to pose, not act :-)

Star brownies
Slightly adapted (more chocolate, less sugar) from this recipe.

200 g semi-sweet chocolate
250 g butter
6 eggs (medium size)
250 g sugar
pulp of 1 vanilla pod (or 1 tsp liquid vanilla aroma)
220 g flour
200 g ground hazelnut
icing sugar for dusting

1) Chop chocolate. Melt butter and chocolate in bain-marie.
2) Beat eggs, sugar, vanilla pulp and salt with a hand mixer for 8-10 minutes until it becomes thick and creamy.
3) Preheat oven to 190 ºC. Line baking sheet (roughly 30×40 cm) with baking parchment.
4) Stir in melted chocolate butter mixture into the sugar-egg mixture. Then gradually stir in flour and hazelnuts.
5) Spread dough onto a baking sheet and put into oven (second shelf from the bottom).
6) Bake brownie shield at 190 ºC for 15-18 minutes.
7) Take the brownie shield out of the oven and let it cool until lukewarm.
8) Tip the brownie plate onto another baking sheet (bottom up). Dip differently-sized star-shaped cookie cutters into icing sugar and cut star brownies out of the lukewarm brownie shield. Dust stars with icing sugar.

Star brownies
