Pear Walnut Smoothie with cinnamon

Pears. Walnuts. Buttermilk – Right, another winter-smoothie.

It’s only the second smoothie recipe on Strudel & Cream but I have to say I fell in love with smoothies this winter. They are so easy to make and bring a little bit of fruity variety into the short winter days. I am not talking about color though ;-)

Pear-walnut smoothie with cinnamon

Ingredients (serves 2, at roughly 250 ml each):
1 big ripe pear
3 tbsp lemon juice
25 g walnut kernels
250 ml buttermilk
1 tbsp maple sirup or honey
pinch of cinnamon

1) Quarter pear and remove core. Peel pear and cut into pieces. Mix pear pieces with lemon juice. Chop walnut kernels.
2) Combine all ingredients and finely puree with a blender or hand-held blender.
3) Serve & enjoy.

Comment: Before serving, pass the smoothie through a coarse sieve to make sure that all walnut kernels have been pureed.

Birnen-Walnuss Smoothie mit Zimt

Zutaten (für 2 Portionen, bei etwa 250 ml pro Portion):
1 grosse reife Birne
3 EL Zitronensaft
25 g Walnusskerne, am besten gemahlen
250 ml Buttermilch
1 EL Ahornsirup oder Honig
Messerspitze Zimt

1) Birne vierteln, entkernen und abschälen. In Stücke schneiden und mit Zitronensaft vermischen. Walnusskerne zerkleinern.
2) Alle Zutaten mit einem Standmixer oder Pürierstab fein pürieren.
3) Servieren & geniessen.

Anmerkung: Um sicherzugehen, dass die Walnusskerne alle püriert sind, den Smoothie vor dem Servieren durch ein grobes Sieb giessen.

  1. Two pear and walnut recipes in a row?! I hit the jackpot today :) These sound totally wonderful and yummy–I’ve never put buttermilk in a smoothie before! My absolute favorite is like a green milkshake–almond milk, cacao powder, peanut butter, frozen banana, and LOTS of spinach. Creamy, cold, delicious!
